CORIOLIS COMPOSITES

Coriolis Composites, with its innovative technology, supplies robots and software for fibreplacement to the aeronautic sector notably to Airbus, to wind-turbine manufacturers and to industry in general. Coriolis Composites is based in Lorient (France) and made of 12 highly-skilled engineers.

Technical involvement in the proposal

Coriolis Composites mechanical department will offer expert know-how and improve fibre placement systems for dry fibre as specified by Airframer. Using its own pilot manufacturing unit, Coriolis Composites will also make test coupons, full scale process validation or prototypes to validate the technical studies.

Previous Experience relevant to these tasks

Coriolis Composites has developed state-of-the-art technology for fibre placement through a combination of ground-breaking improvements in the use of robots and software for handling fibres. This technology uses standard poly-articulated robots equipped with a sophisticated fibre placement system. The robots, originally used in the automotive industry, have a proven track record over many years. They were chosen because of their dependability, their wide availability and their low cost.

Coriolis Composites fibre placement robot

Over a ten-year period of R&D Coriolis Composites worked on producing a head of less than 50Kg (the maximum pay load for the robots) and a simple, efficient system for feeding the fibres some 2.75m from the creel at the foot of the robot, along the poly-articulated arm, to the head. The remarkable improvements Coriolis Composites has brought to fibre placement are now widely recognised. Coriolis Composites tools are reputed for their reliability, their simplicity and their robustness. Coriolis Composites has brought considerable advances to today’s technology.

Manufacturing resources includes:

  • Hardware: 8-axis robotic manufacturing unit with 3x3x8 m3 workspace taking forms, templates, etc up to 5 tons
  • Software: CAO: Solidworks, CATIA-DELMIA V5, CADFiber suite for fibre placement, Rhino
